The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, identified as Pascal Ogbogu, for allegedly killing his 56-year-old father with a machete in Abatete, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, commended the prompt response of police operatives, family members, vigilante personnel and community members, whose cooperation reportedly contributed to the suspect’s arrest.
According to preliminary information released by the Command, the incident occurred on the evening of Tuesday, August 25, 2026, when the suspect allegedly attacked his father before fleeing the scene.
Following a distress report, police operatives from the Eziowelle Police Division, alongside family members and members of the Abatete Vigilante, mobilised to the scene.
The deceased was reportedly found lying lifeless in a pool of blood, with a deep machete wound to the throat.
His body was subsequently evacuated to a mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
The suspect, who allegedly fled after the incident, was apprehended in the early hours of Wednesday, August 26, through coordinated efforts by the Police and Abatete Vigilante personnel.
The Police said timely information and cooperation from community members also played a significant role in tracking and locating the suspect.
CP Nnanna particularly commended the family, community members, police operatives and vigilante personnel for their swift response and cooperation.
He stressed that community participation, timely information sharing and strong collaboration between the Police and local communities remain crucial to effective policing and the protection of lives and property.
The Commissioner also commiserated with the family of the deceased and directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation and comprehensive review.
He assured the family and members of the public that the investigation would be conducted professionally and diligently in accordance with the law.
The Police Commissioner further stated that the suspect would be made to face due process upon conclusion of the investigation.
