In a notable show of solidarity, over 200 private legal practitioners from the 19 Northern States have volunteered their services to assist Governor Kabir Yusuf of Kano State in his appeal case for the Gubernatorial election at the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

The lawyers, operating under the banner of ‘Abba Kabir Yusuf Volunteer Lawyers Forum for the 19 Northern States and Abuja,’ conveyed their collective decision during a media address in Kaduna on Sunday.

Yusuf Ibrahim, the spokesman for the lawyers, called upon President Bola Tinubu and the Supreme Court to uphold democratic diversity and prevent Nigeria from becoming a one-party state, emphasizing the importance of a healthy democratic practice.

Expressing their concerns regarding the independence of the judiciary, the lawyers stressed the necessity of adhering to the rule of law to ensure that every Nigerian’s vote holds significance in elections.

The group, firmly supporting Governor Yusuf, characterized the recent Appeal Court judgment favoring the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a clear miscarriage of justice.

They volunteered as private legal practitioners to partake in the litigation process, aiming to represent the truth in the quest to reclaim the mandate bestowed by the people of Kano State.

In addition to their support for Governor Yusuf, the lawyers advocated for a reworking of the Electoral Act, urging the Supreme Court to resist any external interference to safeguard the judiciary’s integrity and uphold the rule of law.
