In a time when education in Nigeria is being hindered by poor leadership and inadequate funding, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has emerged as a beacon of hope. His commitment to education and human development has been praised by Nigerian author and former lawmaker, Eddie Mbadiwe.
Education is widely recognized as a vital tool for human development and economic emancipation. However, Nigeria has struggled to prioritize education adequately, resulting in many citizens opting for private schools. In light of this, UNICEF has consistently advised governments to allocate a minimum of 30 percent of their budget to education.
Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has emerged as a shining example of leadership and commitment to education. He has been lauded for being the only governor in Nigeria today who has fulfilled UNICEF’s recommendation by allocating 30 percent of the state’s budget to education.
Governor Mbah’s dedication to education is evident in his efforts to eliminate wasteful spending and streamline governance. By implementing an e-governance system and digitalizing revenue sectors, he has ensured that funds are allocated efficiently and transparently. This innovative approach has enabled Enugu State to have sufficient resources to invest in education.
The positive effects of Governor Mbah’s commitment to education are evident in Enugu State. Improved funding has allowed for the implementation of various educational initiatives, including the adoption of modern teaching methods, the provision of necessary infrastructure, and the training of teachers. As a result, the quality of education in Enugu State has significantly improved, attracting more students to public schools.
Governor Peter Mbah’s efforts have not gone unnoticed. Eddie Mbadiwe, a Nigerian author and former lawmaker, expressed his gratitude for Governor Mbah’s commitment to education and praised his leadership. UNICEF also commended Governor Mbah and recommended that other governments emulate his example by allocating a minimum of 30 percent of their budget to education.
