Emmanuel Amuneke, the former Super Eagles winger, has responded to the reports suggesting that he voted for Egypt’s Mohamed Salah over Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen for the 2023 CAF Player of the Year Award.

Amuneke clarified that he was not given the opportunity to cast his vote in the CAF Awards.

He also revealed that the viral video causing the controversy featured a Moroccan journalist asking him to pick between Salah and Achraf Hakimi.

“I was never elected to vote in the CAF Awards. A Moroccan journalist came to me and asked ‘Hakimi or Salah’.

“I said Salah because I played in Egypt and I lived in Egypt and I know some of the guys there. Osimhen was never in the conversation,” Amuneke said.

In the end, Osimhen was awarded the CAF Player of the Year, beating Salah and Hakimi.
