Death Toll Rises To 148 In China’s Terrific Gansu, Qinghai Earthquake

On Friday, local authorities reported that the death toll from the 6.2-magnitude earthquake in Northwest China has reached 117 in Gansu province, contributing to a total of 148 casualties in Gansu and Qinghai provinces.

China Daily reports that the provincial earthquake relief headquarters said that as of 8am on Friday, the earthquake had injured no fewer than 781 people in Gansu.

It was gathered that a total of 311 temporary relocation sites have been set up for the affected residents in Gansu, while 112,346 people have been relocated as of Friday afternoon.

At least 499 individuals have been discharged from hospital after receiving treatment, while 282 people are still in hospital, among whom, 17 are in critical condition and 69 are severely injured.

While all patients are said to be receiving individual specific diagnoses and treatment plans, pharmacies have reportedly resumed operation to guarantee the allocation of medicine.

Hundreds of thousands of boxes of drugs to treat colds, trauma, digestive disorders, hypertension, diabetes, and other fundamental diseases have also been distributed.

In Qinghai province, the earthquake which occurred at 11:59pm on Monday and had a focal depth of 10 km is said to have killed 31 people as of Thursday.
