Rivers: NLC, TUC, NANS, others protest in support Fubara

Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State has received support from organized labor amidst his confrontation with Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike.

This backing was demonstrated by the Nigerian Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress, National Association of Nigerian Students, Labour Centres, ITC, Traders, and others, who took to the streets of Port Harcourt in solidarity with Fubara.

The struggle for control over the political structure of Rivers State has caused a rift between Wike and Fubara.

This led 27 lawmakers from the Rivers State House of Assembly, who were loyal to Wike, to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) after Fubara faced threats of impeachment.

The power struggle between Wike and Fubara was so heated that about seven commissioners resigned from their positions.

However, in an effort to resolve the crisis, President Bola Tinubu stepped in and facilitated a peace agreement between Wike and Fubara.

After the signing of an eight-point resolution, the state Assembly then withdrew the impeachment notice against Fubara.
