The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, confidently stated that the Super Eagles of Nigeria are poised to clinch victory in the upcoming African Cup of Nations championship.

Emphasizing their bright prospects, he expressed his belief that Nigeria will emerge triumphant in the 2024 edition of AFCON.

Gusau shared these remarks during an interaction with journalists in Ikom LGA, central Cross River State, where the Minister of Sports Development, John Owan-Enoh, conducted a Thanksgiving Service in a Catholic Church.

He further highlighted the extensive preparations made by the NFF to equip the Super Eagles for the tournament, and he appreciated the Federal Government for granting their requests to facilitate their participation.

Originally scheduled for the previous year, AFCON was rescheduled to take place in Cote d’Ivoire from 13th January 2024.

Gusau said, “Our chances at the upcoming AFCON are very bright. We have done much to prepare our national football team well for the continental football fiesta.

“Government has so far approved what we requested to enable us have good participation at the Nations’ Cup. So we are confident that we are ready to beat other competitors.

“We have 25 quality, young and vibrant players to represent Nigeria. I want to say that we we’re ready to do the country proud.”

“We want Nigerians to support the team with prayers, which reason we have joined the sports minister in Ikom to jointly pray for the players and success.”

He also spoke about sanitizing the NFF holistically to enable them to have even better chances at the premier and other leagues.

“We’re still trying our best to clear the backlog of what we met. With what we are doing in the less than two years, we hope to completely sanitise the system to consolidate our winning chances at all continental championships and better our leagues,” he added.
