The deceased met their end when the two commercial vehicles they were travelling in drove over the landmines along Ngala-Dikwa road in Ngala Local Government Area of the State

Many other motorists also sustained varying degrees of life threatening injuries in the incident.

The tragic occurrence happened about 115 kilometers away from Maiduguri, the state capital.

The two vehicles involved in the incident were damaged beyond repairs, a security source familiar with the development said.

“The vehicles left Ngala around 900:am while the incident occurred about 15 kilometers away. Eight civilians feared dead including two children, and several others were critically wounded in the landmines blast,” he said.

A top civilian JTF source said the two vehicles, an Izuzu van and a lorry, stepped on the bomb and nearly all the passengers feared dead.
