The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon will face the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the second round of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.

Cameroon scored two late goals to defeat the Gambia 3-2 in their final group game at the Stade de Bouaké on Tuesday.

The Indomitable Lions finished second in Group C with four points and a superior goal difference over Guinea, who were defeated 2-0 by Senegal in the group’s other game.

Karl Toko Ekambi pulled Cameroonians ahead with a deft header early in the second half before the Gambia turned the match on its head with two goals from Ablie Jallow and Ebrima Colley.

The Lions levelled the scoreline in the 87th minute after James Gomes bundled the ball into his net for an own goal.

The five-time AFCON champion then completed the comeback with a glancing header from Cristopher Wooh in stoppage time.

Cameroon will play Nigeria in the second-round match on January 27 at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium, Abidjan.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria qualified for the AFCON round of 16 after finishing second in Group A.

The team drew Equatorial Guinea in the first game before defeating Ivory Coast and Guinea-Bissau to amass seven points.

The round-of-16 fixture serves up another mouthwatering episode of football rivalry between the two neighbouring countries.

The two national teams have faced off 25 times, with Nigeria enjoying a better head-to-head record of 12 wins and 8 draws over Cameroon.
