The Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial District, Chief Ifeanyi Ubah has described last Saturday House of Representatives rerun polls in the state as a litmus test for 2025 Governorship elections in the state.
Ubah who recently announced his intention to contest the governorship poll of the state next year on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said he used the Saturday February 3 rerun polls in Orumba and Nnewi areas of the state to tell the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and state governor Prof Chukwuma Soludo that he(Ubah) is a ” Street General.”
He said, ” I was in my house here in Nnewi. I didn’t step out from my house during the Saturday February 3 rerun polls, but I used my influence and strategies to win the two seats of House of Representatives for my former party, Young Progressives Party( YPP). That’s a litmus test for 2025 Governorship election in Anambra State.
“The state government sent down seven Commissioners and other Government officials to Nnewi for that election for APGA. Their purpose was to intimidate us but we floored them to make a statement that by the grace of God we are in charge of Nnewi and Anambra South Senatorial District in general.
Recall that Ubah won the Anambra South Senatorial District elections in 2019 and 2023 on the platform of YPP.
Our correspondent gathered that in the Saturday February 3,2024 rerun polls for Nnewi North/South/Ekwusigo federal constituency, the YPP Candidate, Peter Uzokwe polled 25,518 votes to defeat APGA Candidate, Uche Elodimuo who polled 25,412 votes.
Similarly, the YPP Candidate for Orumba North/South Constituency, Hon Princess Chinwe Nnabuife polled 14,496 votes to defeat the PDP Candidate Okwudili Ezenwankwo who polled 13087 votes.
With the above results, YPP Candidate Hon Peter Uzokwe would replace Uchenna Elodimuo and represent the people of Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives while the YPP candidate in Orumba North and Orumba South Federal Constituency, Hon Princess Chinwe Nnabuife retains her seat at the Green Chamber.
Describing the development as a great feat,Ubah said if given the Governorship ticket of his new party( APC) in 2025,he would win the governorship contest and take Anambra State to its pride of place in the country, using his enormous cognitive experience in business.
He thanked the security agencies for being on ground during the rerun polls to ensure peaceful conduct of the exercise.
