South South Tennis Fiesta in Port Harcourt

The General Officer Commanding the 6th Division of the Nigerian Army and Land Component Commander, OPDS, Maj. General Jamal Abdussalam and Sir Emem Akpabio are among dignitaries attending the tennis fiesta of the South South Inter Club Tennis Association, SSICTA, scheduled to hold in Port Harcourt from March 8 to March 9, 2024.

Other dignitaries include Chairman, Board of Trustees of Port Harcourt Club 1928 and Commissioner for Sports, Rivers State, Barr. Chris Green, the President, Port Harcourt Club 1928, Comrade (Dr.) Achese Igwe, Chairman of Police Tennis Club, Ebi Harry, Rear Admiral Uduak Essien (rtd) and Assistant Commander General of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Fidel Cocodia, the association’s General Secretary.

In a statement jointly signed by Chijioke Amu-Nnadi, the Deputy President of SSICTA and chairman of the Central Planning Committee (CPC), and Prince Emenike O. Onunwor, Chairman of the Publicity subcommittee, the fiesta is part of the annual general meeting of the association whose 17 member clubs spread across the six states of the South South geopolitical zone.

Maj. General Abdussalam will be the Chief Host of the opening ceremony at the 6 Division Python Tennis Club 2020, Bori Camp, Port-Harcourt Barracks, while Chief Ikenna Okafor, the Chairman of the River’s State Tennis Association and Grand Patron of 6 Division Python Tennis Club 2020 will chair the occasion.

The AGM, whose hosting rights were granted to the Rivers/Bayelsa zone at the association’s last AGM in Warri, Delta State, will also witness the second general elections into different positions in SSICTA for the next administrative tenure.

A breakdown of the schedule of activities for the AGM shows that the opening ceremony will hold on Friday, March 8, 2024, at 6 Division Python Tennis Club 2020, Bori Camp, Port Harcourt Barracks, while the Inter-club tennis tournament that is usually a scheduled part of the AGM will hold in the morning of Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Port Harcourt Club 1928. Thereafter, the elections and AGM proper will hold later in the afternoon at Police Tennis Club, Port Harcourt.
