The Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Maikalangu, has urged Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, to take immediate action to provide pipe bore water for residents of Maitama district in the nation’s capital to curb borehole digging.

Maikalangu, who made the call during the flag-off ceremony of 57 km road resurfacing projects, spanning 189 roads in the Maitama district on Tuesday, emphasized the necessity to address the ongoing issue of residents resorting to digging boreholes due to inadequate water supply in the area.

While highlighting the beauty of Maitama as a settlement, the council chairman underscored the pressing need for water supply intervention to relieve residents of the burden of borehole excavation.

He said: “We want to thank you most sincerely for your deep and earnest attention in making Abuja Municipal benefit much in the infrastructural development under your watch.

“However, I must point out that this Maitama District though a very beautiful settlement, has a very big challenge in the area of water supply which needs to be rescued and resolved so that the inhabitants can be relieved of digging bole holes.

“Apparently the roads in Maimata are weak because of several years of usage. Your intervention at this time cannot be over emphasized as Maitama represent the beacon of beauty in FCT and Nigeria at large. Also, like Oliver Twist, it is not only Maitama, some other districts in AMAC are suffering the same infrastructural decay and I use this medium to bring it to your notice.

Abuja must be great this time under your watch as a project minister who does not play politics with humanity and good life. However, as AMAC Chairman under which Maitama District is located, I will be visiting here to ensure that the completion of this project is strong and timely.”

“Your Excellency, only your body language speaks volume of progressive thinking in FCT today, thus in just few months of your watch as the FCT Minister, the Capital is witnessing transformation in every area. This is a very apparent truth for everybody to see and we must commend and support you in your transformation agenda in FCT which is the brain child of the Renew Hope mantra of Mr. President.”

In his response, the FCT Minister charged the elites to pay their taxes so as to enable government to carryout more developmental projects.

Wike said, “What we’re doing now is not within the area councils. This is the big men’s place. But when they tell them to pay tax now, they’ll begin to complain. They are happy the road is being resurfaced, but ask them where will the money come from, if not tax.

“When we started to see how we could get more tax and more revenue, there was nothing they did not do to fight me. I’m not worried. I will not shake. I will do what is right.
