2 dead as Sokoto deputy governor’s convoy involves in accident

At least two persons were said to have die when the convoy of Sokoto State Deputy Governor, Idris Mohammed Gobir, had an accident in the state.

The accident occurred around 10:30am on Wednesday while the deputy governor was going to his hometown of Sabon Birni to host Governor Ahmed Aliyu who paid a condolence visit to the area.

The victims are identified as a photographer and a police escort.

The photographer whose name was given as Buhari Usman was inside one of the vehicles conveying security personnel attached to the deputy governor.

The vehicle was said to have skidded off the road and somersaulted at Yanrimawa area along Goronyo-Sabon Birni road.

The director press of the deputy governor while confirming the accident, said the driver of the vehicle who was a policeman also died in the road crash.

He said the remains of the deceased were deposited in the mortuary.

The spokesman of the Sokoto Police Command, ASP Ahmed Rufa’i said he was yet briefed about the accident.

“The incident involved a pilot vehicle in the convoy of the deputy governor and the driver of the vehicle who is a police officer was confirmed dead together with a photographer in the convoy.

“The injured persons are already receiving treatment at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital here in Sokoto.
