The Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (CVCNU) has once again called on the Federal Government to fulfill the previous agreement made with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), in order to avoid the union resorting to another industrial action.

In an exclusive interview with Tribune Online, the Secretary General of the committee, Prof Yakubu Ochefu, expressed concerns about the lack of trust between the two parties regarding the agreement.

He emphasized that the non-compliance of the federal government with past agreements has previously led to strikes by ASUU, and urged them to prevent a repeat of such a situation.

He said in a few months, their last agreement would reach one year without fulfillment, adding that that alone had created some levels of distrust again between the two parties.

He said industrial action cannot do Nigeria any good and therefore both the federal government and ASUU should prevent it.
