The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) said ex-inmates were reformed during their stay in custodial centres, hence the need for Nigerians not to discriminate against them.

The spokesperson for NCoS, Abubakar Umar, made this known to our correspondent on Friday.

Umar, who noted that the ex-inmates were reformed through various skills acquisition and training while at the custodial centres, added that they will give back to the society if given a chance.

He stated, “The Service has improved inmates’ welfare through adequate provision of their needs as well as ensuring their effective reformation, rehabilitation and reintegration.

“This is exemplified at the last Abuja International Trade Fair where products made by inmates were displayed and heralded as highly qualitative.

“The Service hereby requests the general public to support her by accepting ex-offenders as they are now changed persons. The general public is requested to refrain from any act of stigmatization as it further endangers the society.”

The spokesperson added that the service would still sustain the zero jailbreak it recorded in 2023, adding that tight security had been placed on all its facilities across the country.
