NUJ to Honor Tompolo with National Merit Award

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has announced its intention to bestow a national merit award upon Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, a former militant commander in the Niger Delta.

The NUJ National President, Chris Isiguzo, highlighted Tompolo’s significant contributions to fostering peace in the Niger Delta and his role in combating crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism.

The award presentation is scheduled to take place during the upcoming NUJ annual conference in Abuja in February.

Isiguzo emphasized that the decision to confer the award on Tompolo was based on thoroughly examining his activities, particularly his efforts in restoring lasting peace to the region.

Isiguzo praised Tompolo for his substantial contribution to the relative peace experienced in the once war-ravaged oil-rich Niger Delta.

He acknowledged the impact of Tompolo’s pipelines surveillance company, Tantita Security Services Limited (TSSL), in making Nigeria’s waterways inhospitable for criminal elements and economic saboteurs.

The NUJ’s decision to honor Tompolo reflects the recognition of individuals who have played pivotal roles in achieving peace and stability in the Niger Delta, contributing to the overall welfare of the region.
