Manager Thomas Tuchel is poised to bid farewell to Bayern Munich as the current season draws close.

Tuchel, 50, took the helm at the German giants in March 2023, succeeding Julian Nagelsmann, with a contract initially slated to run until June 2025. However, the former Chelsea tactician will depart a year ahead of schedule as part of what the club terms “a sporting realignment.”

While Tuchel guided Bayern to Bundesliga glory last season following his mid-season appointment, the team currently trails league leaders Bayer Leverkusen by eight points after consecutive domestic losses, including a significant 3-0 defeat to Leverkusen themselves.

Moreover, a 1-0 setback against Lazio in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash has further clouded the team’s European prospects.

After constructive discussions, Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen announced the mutual decision to conclude Tuchel’s tenure.

Tuchel expressed his commitment to achieving maximum success with the team until the end of the season alongside his coaching staff.

Despite his prior success, including a UEFA Champions League triumph with Chelsea in 2021, Tuchel faced disappointment in Europe last season as Bayern exited at the quarter-final stage.

Nonetheless, Bayern secured their 11th consecutive Bundesliga title on the final matchday.

However, recent setbacks, including a third successive defeat against Bochum, have underscored Bayern’s challenges this season, both domestically and in Europe.

The team faces an uphill battle to reclaim their Bundesliga crown and must stage a comeback against Lazio to remain in contention in the Champions League.
