… Seadog Members in Enugu Equipped with Vital Fire Safety Knowledge After Collaborative Event

Enugu State Fire Service, in partnership with the Enugu Chapter of the National Association of Seadogs, popularly known as the Pyrates Confraternity, recently concluded a one-day Fire Prevention and Safety Awareness Training. The event, which took place on Sunday, April 7, 2024, at the Anchor Point, Press Centre, in Enugu, saw a successful turnout of participants eager to enhance their understanding of fire safety measures.

According to our correspondent who covered the event, throughout the training session, attendees engaged in interactive discussions and practical demonstrations led by experts from both the Enugu State Fire Service and the Pyrates Confraternity.

It was gathered that topics covered ranged from basic fire safety tips to more advanced emergency response procedures and fire extinguisher handling techniques.

The participants were educated on evacuation protocols to ensure swift and orderly responses in the event of a fire emergency.

Speaking with newsmen, the Director, Enugu State Fire and Rescue Service, Engr Okwudiri Daniel Ọhaa, said, the collaborative effort between the Enugu State Fire Service and the Pyrates Confraternity underscored a shared commitment to promoting community safety and preparedness.

He stated that the attendees were equipped with valuable knowledge and skills aimed at reducing the risk of fire incidents and minimizing their potential impact during the seminar .

According to him, this is a wonderful collaboration because, it is about safety.

“Enugu State Fire and Rescue Service is committed to partnering with any organisation to ensure absolute compliance with fire safety rules and reduce fire outbreaks across the state,” he added.

“I want to appreciate the Enugu state leadership of the National Association of Seadogs for their cooperation as the impacts created by the seminar would go a long way in adding value to the society.”

In another development, the organization led by its Enugu State chairman, Joseph Mazeli and Chukwuemeka Mbah from their Public Awareness and Sensitization Unit, on Friday, paid a courtesy visit to the Director of Enugu State Fire and Rescue Service, Engr Okwudiri Daniel Ọhaa at his office in GRA Enugu.

The visit was to thank the Enugu state leadership of the fire service for their cooperation during the one-day fire prevention and safety awareness training.

Mr. Mazeli stated that the event made numerous positive impacts on the participants, as their feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing gratitude for the opportunity to learn practical fire prevention strategies.

He conveyed the appreciation messages from their members towards Enugu state Fire service over their proactive approach in addressing the critical issue of fire safety as they have started implementing the insights gained during the training in their homes and workplaces.

In his address, Engr Okwudiri Ọhaa, commended the organization for their unending zeal in protecting their members as well as the state.

He opened the door of partnership with other organizations willing to do the same.

However, the successful outcome of the Fire Prevention and Safety Awareness Training reflects the effectiveness of collaboration between public agencies and community organizations in addressing pressing societal concerns.

Moving forward, both the Enugu State Fire Service and the Pyrates Confraternity remain committed to continuing their efforts to promote fire safety awareness and resilience within the Enugu community.

Enugu State Fire and Rescue Service and the organization also agreed to corroborate more on public enlightenment to prevent fire outbreaks in the state by organizing fire safety workshops, for markets like Timber Shed, Maryland Enugu, and Ogbete Main Market, amongst others as well as road shows where fire safety flyers would be shared to the general public.
