The African Action Congress (AAC), Oyo State chapter, has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to intensify surveillance of the state government’s financial activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party’s request was contained in a petition dated September 9, 2026, and submitted to the EFCC’s Ibadan Zonal Directorate on September 14.

Signed by Damilare Adenola & Co., solicitors to the AAC Oyo State chapter, the petition was submitted on behalf of the state chairman, Kayode Babayomi.

The party expressed concern that the intensification of political activities ahead of the 2027 elections could create opportunities for the misuse or diversion of public resources for partisan purposes.

In the petition titled “Petition for Vigilant Monitoring and Scrutiny of the Pattern of Expenditure of Oyo State Government Funds During the 2027 Election Period,” the AAC asked the anti-graft agency to closely examine the pattern and nature of government spending.

According to the party, increased monitoring would help prevent public funds from being improperly deployed to support political interests and would strengthen accountability in the management of state resources.

The AAC said it was particularly interested in ensuring that public money remained dedicated to legitimate government programmes and services as political activities gather momentum.

The party urged the EFCC to use its statutory powers to monitor government transactions and scrutinise any expenditure or financial activities that could raise concerns during the election period.

The development comes amid growing political activity across the country ahead of the 2027 elections, with opposition parties increasingly demanding greater transparency in the management and utilisation of public funds.

The AAC maintained that its petition was aimed at protecting the public interest and promoting accountability, rather than interfering with the lawful operations of the Oyo State Government.
