2027: Anambra South APC Senatorial Candidate, Chibuogwu Denies Withdrawal Rumour, Says ‘I Remain Firmly in the Race’

Chibuogwu Benson-Oraelosi

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Anambra South Senatorial District, Chibuogwu Benson-Oraelosi (Iyom El-Roi), has dismissed reports claiming that she plans to withdraw from the 2027 senatorial race.

Benson-Oraelosi described the rumour as “false, mischievous and completely without foundation,” insisting that she remains the duly recognised APC candidate for the district.

In a statement issued on Friday, the candidate said she was the only aspirant returned unopposed during the APC primary election for Anambra South.

She explained that Chief Ebuka Onunkwo, popularly known as Seahorse, was the only other aspirant who purchased the party’s nomination form but later withdrew from the contest and moved to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to Benson-Oraelosi, she has neither withdrawn from the race nor indicated any intention to do so.

I have not withdrawn, and I will not withdraw,” she declared.

The APC candidate alleged that the rumour was deliberately circulated by detractors to create confusion, mislead the public and distract voters ahead of the election.

She reaffirmed her commitment to contesting the election, describing her candidacy as a “Divine Assignment” and pledging to provide what she called intentional leadership and impactful representation for the people of Anambra South in the Senate.

Benson-Oraelosi urged APC members, supporters and members of the public to disregard the rumour and continue mobilising support for his candidacy.

He concluded by stressing his determination to remain in the contest, saying: “I remain firmly in the race.”
