Dr. Jibril Mustapha, President of the Nigeria Rescue Mission Organisation and former President of the Buhari Youth Organisation (BYO), has called on former President Goodluck Jonathan to contest the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Lagos, Mustapha urged Jonathan to heed growing appeals for his return to national leadership, citing the country’s current socio-economic challenges and the need for a unifying leader.
“As the nation prepares for the 2027 elections, the Nigeria Rescue Mission Organisation believes that now is the time for all stakeholders to rally behind a candidate capable of genuinely representing the interests of all Nigerians,” Mustapha said.
He stressed that Nigeria is facing serious issues including economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment, and rampant banditry, and that the country urgently requires a leader with integrity, inclusivity, and a firm commitment to national unity.
“Given the circumstances, we urge former President Goodluck Jonathan to consider this call and to step forward as a candidate who can unite our country and lead us towards a brighter future,” he added.
Mustapha noted that Jonathan, during his tenure as president, demonstrated a strong commitment to democratic values and prioritised the welfare of all Nigerians. He expressed confidence that Jonathan possesses the vision, experience, and leadership qualities needed to navigate Nigeria through its present difficulties and reposition the nation for sustainable growth.
“Nigeria is at a crossroads. We are grappling with significant issues that threaten our stability and progress. We need a leader who can bring all Nigerians together, regardless of their background,” Mustapha said.
The group concluded by appealing to other stakeholders and political actors to support the call for Jonathan’s candidacy, emphasising that his leadership could mark a crucial turning point for the nation.
