The All Progressives Congress (APC) North-Central Grassroots Mobilisation Movement for President Bola Tinubu has warned party governors, particularly those in the North, that a defeat of the President in the 2027 general election could undermine their chances of electoral success.
The group urged APC governors and other party stakeholders to stop actions capable of weakening support for Tinubu’s re-election bid, stressing that the outcome of the presidential election could influence the fortunes of other APC candidates.
The movement’s coordinator, Alhaji Ibrahim Khaleel Aliyu, gave the warning in Minna, Niger State, on Wednesday, during the inauguration of the organisation’s structures across the 25 local government areas of the state.
Aliyu said reports available to the group indicated that some potential voters were considering withdrawing their support for Tinubu ahead of the presidential election.
He warned that failure to address the situation could have far-reaching consequences for APC candidates contesting governorship, legislative and other elective positions.
According to him, a presidential election defeat could strengthen opposition parties and improve their chances of defeating APC candidates in subsequent contests.
“We should not allow this trending issue to continue,” he said.
To prevent such an outcome, Aliyu directed local government and zonal coordinators to return to their respective wards and polling units to intensify grassroots mobilisation.
He tasked each coordinator with mobilising at least 500 votes from every polling unit for Tinubu and other APC candidates in the January and February 2027 elections.
Aliyu said the party’s electoral strategy should focus on direct engagement with voters rather than relying on political status, elaborate appearances or displays of affluence.
“This election is not about sitting at home, it is not about wearing flowing gowns and displaying bigmanism. It is about going to the people and convincing them on the need to vote APC from top to bottom,” he said.
The coordinator also cautioned APC members allegedly maintaining political relationships with opposition candidates, saying the movement was monitoring their activities.
“They are being watched and monitored,” he warned, adding that appropriate action would be taken against them at the right time.
Speaking at the event, the Special Adviser on Matters (Zone B) to Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, Alhaji Yusuf Tagwai, described the 2027 election campaign as a battle that would be decided through voter mobilisation rather than physical confrontation.
He characterised the contest as “a war, not with weapons but a war with voters cards,” underscoring the importance of securing electoral support ahead of the polls.
