Political commentator and activist Kayode Ogundamisi has stirred fresh debate in Nigeria’s political space with a bold suggestion on how to defeat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
In a statement circulating on social media, Ogundamisi clarified he is not aligned with any political coalition, nor a fan of Peter Obi, yet insists the former Anambra governor remains the only realistic threat to Tinubu’s re-election bid.
“Even Lagos isn’t safe for Bola with Obi as the consensus candidate. His camp mocks him publicly, but they fear him privately,” Ogundamisi wrote.
He urged opposition forces to build around Obi, describing him as an unconventional candidate with grassroots appeal in the South—a critical factor in confronting what he calls Tinubu’s “state power + mafia-style politics.”
“Tinubu has built a new alliance, different from the one that brought him in… Your only shot is Peter Obi. Use him — or lose again,” he added.
Ogundamisi further advised that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) should consider adopting Peter Obi as their presidential candidate if the opposition is serious about mounting a credible challenge.
