A 23-year-old man, Akuade Samuel, has been brought before a Magistrate’s Court in Ondo State over the alleged killing of his mother, Akuade Olufunke.
Samuel was arraigned before Magistrate Olateju Odenusi-Fadeyi on a murder charge stemming from an incident reportedly involving a cutlass.
The prosecution, led by Taiwo Oniyeye, told the court that the incident occurred around noon on August 6, 2026, at the Power Line area of Ore, Ondo State.
According to the prosecution, Samuel allegedly used a cutlass to cut his mother’s neck, resulting in her death.
The alleged offence was said to contravene Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant and have the case file forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
However, Samuel’s counsel, A.D. Obademi, requested a short adjournment to enable him to file an affidavit challenging the prosecution’s application for his remand.
Following the submissions, the court adjourned the matter until August 31, 2026, for hearing of the remand application.
The case remains before the court, and the allegation against Samuel is yet to be determined.
