The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) is reportedly under mounting pressure to tamper with official records of 20 companies allegedly linked to fugitive socialite Aisha Achimugu, who is currently under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for fraud and money laundering involving $250 million in diverted political funds.
Sources within the CAC disclosed that individuals believed to be working on Achimugu’s behalf—some identified as legal practitioners—have approached the Commission with requests to alter the directorship and ownership records of the companies in question. These entities, all registered with the CAC and sharing similar addresses, are said to have been instrumental in laundering funds earmarked for the 2027 general elections.
Investigators allege that the funds, initially gathered from corporate donors and influential individuals to support political projects, were entrusted to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. The governor allegedly handed the funds over to Achimugu—identified as a close associate and alleged romantic partner—for safekeeping. However, the $250 million reportedly vanished from the primary account and was later traced to multiple accounts linked to Achimugu.
The scandal erupted after Sanwo-Olu failed to provide an adequate account of the funds, pointing investigators in the direction of Achimugu. Her subsequent disappearance and the inability of authorities to trace the funds have intensified scrutiny.
“The implications of altering CAC records at this point are significant,” a Commission insider revealed. “It could allow Mrs. Achimugu to claim in court that she has no ties to these companies, potentially undermining the entire EFCC case.”
The EFCC has neither confirmed nor denied the scope of its investigation, but insiders say the Commission is working to prevent any tampering with official documentation that could compromise the case.
This developing scandal threatens to deepen the ongoing conversation around political accountability, financial transparency, and the abuse of public trust at the highest levels of Nigerian politics.
