In a significant move to consolidate internal unity and dispel rumours of division, all 37 state chairmen of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chairman, have thrown their weight behind the party’s interim leadership following a closed-door strategy meeting held in Abuja on Wednesday.
The meeting, which was led by former Senate President David Mark and members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), was convened to strengthen internal cohesion and reassure state executives of their role in the party’s reorganisation and coalition-building efforts.
Speaking after the meeting, ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi emphasized that the leadership has no intentions of marginalizing the state chairmen, describing them as “partners in building a stronger political party.”
“We invited all the state chairmen to reassure them that we have no intention to shove them aside,” Abdullahi stated. “They are leaving Abuja today more assured than ever that they are critical stakeholders in the future of the ADC.”
Addressing questions surrounding the legitimacy of the new leadership, particularly comments made by the party’s former presidential candidate Dumebi Kachikwu, Abdullahi clarified that the coalition process stands on firm legal ground.
“A presidential candidate is not an officer of the party; he’s just a member,” he said. “If anyone has evidence that we have violated our constitution, they are free to challenge it. But so far, no member of the ADC has disagreed with the process.”
Chairman of the ADC Forum of State Chairmen and Kogi State chairman, Hon. Kingsley Ogga, also spoke during the session, affirming the total support of the chairmen for the interim leadership and its strategic vision for the party.
