
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, on Tuesday, delivered a national statement at the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development in Sevilla, Spain, outlining the nation’s ambitious fiscal reset agenda.
Speaking at a high-level roundtable focused on domestic public resource mobilisation, Edun advocated for a crucial rebalancing of global finance to better accommodate the economic realities faced by developing nations.
He detailed the comprehensive reforms Nigeria is undertaking, which include a concerted effort to enhance tax administration, enforce stringent fiscal discipline, and cultivate an environment conducive to private sector investment.
“In today’s evolving global landscape, self-reliance is essential. We are prioritising digital infrastructure, transparency, and institutional reform to deliver more for Nigerians with every naira spent,” the Minister affirmed during his address, emphasising the government’s commitment to efficient resource utilisation.
Reflecting on the day’s proceedings, the Ministry of Finance’s official X platform shared a statement on Tuesday, reiterating the core message, “Nigeria’s fiscal reset is firmly underway. The Minister further underscored the pressing need for robust international cooperation to tackle issues of tax fairness and combat illicit financial flows. He highlighted these areas as persistent systemic disadvantages for African economies, calling for a united front to address them.
