Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has said the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area occurred less than 24 hours after he declared his intention to run for the presidency.
Speaking after the successful rescue of the victims, Makinde noted that Oyo State had not experienced such an incident throughout his seven years in office until shortly after his presidential declaration.
“For seven years of me being governor, Oyo State did not witness such a thing. But less than 24 hours after I declared for president, the kidnapping of the students and teachers happened,” the governor said.
Makinde made the remark while addressing the state’s security situation following the release of the abducted pupils, teachers and school principal. He did not provide evidence linking the timing of the abduction to his presidential ambition.
