Media mogul and prominent PDP chieftain, Dele Momodu, has strongly dismissed the recent claim by former Borno State Governor, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, that Mr. Peter Obi is planning to return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and run as its presidential candidate in the 2027 elections.
In a detailed statement, Momodu expressed deep skepticism about the claim, suggesting that Peter Obi former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate is too politically astute to rejoin a PDP that, in his view, currently functions as a “subsidiary of the APC.”
“Though it is often said that no politician can be trusted, I know Mr. Peter Obi reasonably well and would credit him with some smartness,” Momodu stated. “He must be aware that PDP, as it stands today, is a subsidiary of APC.”
He went further to highlight that Obi is also aware of the ongoing internal issues within the Labour Party, especially under the Julius Abure-led leadership, which he alleged is already aligned with the ruling APC.
Momodu emphasized that the only realistic path forward for Nigeria’s opposition forces ahead of the 2027 elections is through a united coalition. However, he cautioned that such a coalition must embrace internal democracy, where all parties agree to hold credible primaries and support the eventual winner.
“Tickets cannot be donated,” he stressed. “This is the first litmus test for anyone claiming to be a true democrat.”
