Former music label executive Ubi Franklin has strongly refuted social media claims accusing him of stealing a wristwatch during singer Davido’s recent wedding in Miami.
An Instagram blog alleged that Franklin, who attended the high-profile event, had taken a luxury watch without permission. In a statement released on Thursday, Franklin described the accusation as “completely false and misleading,” stressing that he has never stolen from anyone.
“I am currently aware of the recent circulation on social media linking my name to an alleged theft. I wish to make it clear that these allegations are completely false,” he wrote.
“Recently, I returned from my dear friend/sister’s wedding and I am currently preparing for my sister’s funeral this weekend. While in Miami, Benny met and offered to sell me a wristwatch. I declined the first offer to avoid any potential complications. During the wedding church service, Benny sent his brother with another wristwatch which I purchased and paid for in full.
“After the wedding, I left Miami immediately for my sister’s funeral arrangements. While airborne, I was contacted about the first wristwatch. I want to state clearly: I am not a thief. I purchased a wristwatch and paid in full from Benny.”
Franklin noted that Benny himself had publicly debunked the theft rumor earlier in the day, yet the story continued circulating online.
Singer Davido has also spoken out, denying that any theft occurred and affirming that Franklin is not a thief. Music star Iyanya echoed the same sentiment, describing the allegations as baseless.
