In a surprising turn of events ahead of the forthcoming Local Government elections in Omuma Local Government Area, the Vice Chairmanship candidate of the Labour Party, Miss Queen Chidinma Ogubuaja (popularly known as Amina), has formally withdrawn from the race.
Announcing her decision, Miss Ogubuaja cited irregularities in the emergence of her party’s Chairmanship candidate, Mr. Japheth Chetachi Ogbueri, noting that the process leading to his selection fell short of the requirements of extant laws and the Electoral Act. According to her, these lapses in due process undermined the credibility of the ticket under which she was paired.
In what is seen as a significant political realignment, she declared her support for Hon. Uchechukwu Obasi, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairmanship candidate, whom she described as a credible leader with the capacity to deliver purposeful governance in Omuma LGA.
In her words, “after a careful thought and reflection, I have resolved to withdraw from the Vice Chairmanship race under the Labour Party. The emergence of Mr. Japheth Chetachi Ogbueri as Chairmanship candidate did not comply with the provisions of the Electoral Act and therefore compromised the integrity of the process. In the interest of fairness, justice, and the future of Omuma, I am throwing my full support behind Hon. Uchechukwu Obasi of the APC, a leader who embodies transparency, vision, and genuine service to the people, she stated”.
Her withdrawal and endorsement are expected to significantly alter the political landscape in Omuma LGA, with analysts suggesting that this move could strengthen the APC’s momentum ahead of the 30th August Local Government elections.
Nevertheless, she reassured her supporters of her continued commitment to the development of Omuma and urged them to unite behind Hon. Obasi to ensure a brighter future for the Local Government Area.
