Comedian Mr Jollof Tenders Public Apology to Olu of Warri Over Misinterpreted Post

Nigerian comedian and media aide, Freedom Atsepoyi, popularly known as Mr Jollof, has publicly apologized to the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, following backlash over a recent social media post that was widely perceived as a subtle attack on the revered monarch.

The post, which touched on the development of the riverine region, was quickly interpreted by some critics as an attempt to shield his principal, Delta State Governor Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori, while casting aspersions on the Olu of Warri.

In a statement shared via his social media pages, Mr Jollof clarified his position, stressing that his words were never intended to disrespect the throne.

“First of all, I am a bonafide son of Warri Kingdom, Ugborodo 100% (both father and mother). By birth and heritage, I have every right to speak about the development of my community, which ought to be a collective responsibility.

At no point did I disrespect the revered throne. My words were simply an appeal — a call for the embodiment of our tribe to use his goodwill to further the progress of our people. That appeal did not come from a place of hate or disrespect,” he explained.

The comedian further clarified his role in the Delta State government, noting that he serves as a Senior Special Assistant on New Media, not a Special Adviser to the Governor as widely speculated.

“I merited that position as a social commentator who highlights what needs to be done, never to bring down anyone’s reputation. That has never been, and will never be, my character,” he stated.

Reaffirming his loyalty to both his community and the traditional institution, Mr Jollof emphasized that he has always been an advocate of peace and development.

“Our king is digitally inclined, and I believe he understood the video from a positive perspective, not from a place of disrespect. In conclusion, I respect tradition deeply, and if my statement was in any way misunderstood, I tender my apology,” he added.
