Akure, the Ondo State capital, witnessed a protest on Friday as a group of applicants stormed the streets, alleging exclusion from the recently concluded teachers’ recruitment exercise conducted by the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

The protesters claimed they had been issued employment and posting letters, only to later discover that they were not among those captured in the final process. Their demonstration generated public attention and sparked debate across the state.

Reacting swiftly, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa clarified that the protesters were not teachers dropped from the recruitment exercise but applicants who had fallen victim to fraud. According to him, scammers issued them fake letters after collecting money, and the fraud was uncovered during biometric verification.

Government sources revealed that three insiders within SUBEB allegedly connived with external collaborators to perpetrate the act. The suspects have since faced disciplinary measures.

The governor further explained that over 2,000 duly recruited teachers for both primary and secondary schools have already resumed duty across the state.

To address the matter, Governor Aiyedatiwa directed SUBEB management to meet with the defrauded applicants, while a special committee has been constituted to investigate the case further and recommend appropriate actions.
