Peter Obi Accused of Undermining Labour Party in Anambra Governorship Election

Eneh Victor Chigozie and Peter Obi

Concerns are mounting over the internal dynamics of the Labour Party (LP) in Anambra State, with some party members and observers alleging that former LP presidential candidate, Peter Obi, played a decisive role in shaping the outcome of the November 8 governorship election in favor of Governor Charles Soludo.

Eneh Victor Chigozie, a political commentator, accused Obi of imposing Dr. George Moughalu as the LP governorship candidate, allegedly frustrating other aspirants such as Val Ozigbo, who reportedly defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) after perceiving an uneven playing field. Senator Tony Nwoye was also allegedly blocked from contesting the LP nomination, while John Nwosu reportedly withdrew at the last minute after Obi allegedly instructed the party to endorse Moughalu.

According to Chigozie, Obi abandoned Moughalu after the nomination, leaving the party without agents in many polling units despite its robust structure in Anambra, including senators, House of Representatives members, and state assembly lawmakers.

“If Obi cannot make an impact in his own state, how does he think he can win the presidential election in 2027?” Chigozie questioned, adding that Obi’s actions may have weakened LP in Anambra to benefit Prof. Soludo and the APC.
