The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deepened on Tuesday as the National Executive Committee (NEC), led by the faction loyal to Nyesom Wike, approved the expulsion of Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State, and party chieftain Chief Bode George.
Also affected by disciplinary actions are former Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), Senator Adolphus Wabara; former Minister, Senator Kabiru Tanimu Turaki; and the Deputy National Chairman (South), Taofeek Arapaja, among several others. They were suspended for alleged anti-party activities.
In a sweeping decision, the NEC also ratified the dissolution of the State Executive Councils of Bauchi, Oyo, Zamfara, Yobe, Lagos, Edo, and Ekiti States.
The resolutions were reached at the 103rd NEC meeting held today at the party’s National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja.
Acting National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Mohammed Abdulrahman, who presented the memo recommending the expulsions and suspensions, said the affected members deliberately disregarded subsisting court judgments, an act he described as embarrassing to the party and injurious to its image.
He added that the decisions were necessary to “restore order, discipline, and respect for the rule of law within the PDP.”
