In a strongly worded letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Hon. Alex Mascot Ikwechegh, the Member representing Aba North/Aba South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has raised alarm over the growing tension across the country following the conviction of IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
The lawmaker described the nation as being “in disarray,” citing rising insecurity, economic hardship, political instability, and increasing anxiety among citizens.
According to him, “This is a time to unite our country; this is a time to heal our nation.”
He expressed concern over the “needless killings of both Muslims and Christians,” Nigeria’s dwindling global perception, and intensified internal political crises within major opposition parties.
Hon. Mascot stressed that even the “blind can perceive” the tension currently gripping the nation, stating that leadership at such a moment must serve as “the anchor of hope.”
He appealed directly to President Tinubu to grant presidential pardon to Nnamdi Kanu, insisting that clemency would significantly calm the security situation in the South-East and foster national reconciliation.
The only person capable of reuniting this nation and placing her once again on a progressive path is the President and Commander-in-Chief,” he wrote.
Mascot argued that pardoning Kanu at this time would draw millions of his followers closer to the leadership of President Tinubu and reinforce Nigeria’s unity.
He concluded with a call to preserve national cohesion, saying Nigeria must remain strong enough to withstand any attempt to undermine its sovereignty.
