A Nigerian television broadcaster, Rufai Oseni, has gone viral for his sharp criticism of the government’s handling of the recent release of kidnapped victims in Kebbi State, describing the situation as “confusing” and “unsettling.”

During a passionate on-air segment, Oseni condemned authorities for allegedly negotiating with bandits instead of taking decisive action to apprehend them. He questioned how the criminals responsible for abducting citizens were allowed to go free after releasing 24 victims.

“The entire process raises serious questions about justice, accountability, and the safety of our citizens,” Oseni said.

He further pressed the government for clarity, asking why there have been no arrests, no confrontations, and no public explanation regarding the incident. He also raised concerns about whether ransom payments were made and why those responsible are not being prosecuted.

Oseni drew a stark comparison with the government’s approach to Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who faces severe punishment for alleged incitement of violence. “Why is someone accused of inciting violence facing harsh penalties while those responsible for abducting citizens face seemingly no consequences?” he asked.
