Presidential aide Daniel Bwala has argued that calls for President Bola Tinubu to resign over rising bandit att+cks are unfounded, insisting that criticism does not automatically translate into constitutional action.
He made the remarks during an interview on Morning Briefing on Channels Television.
Responding to whether such demands were fair, Bwala said, “you see being confronted with a problem is not a problem. When you lack solution in solving the problem, then you have a problem because in life, there is no part of this planet where there are no security situation.
I was telling my guys in TVC, I said the crime rate in the United States is more than the crime rate in Nigeria.
People in a democratic society has the right to say what they say but the next thing is you back it up. If you believe when you are calling the president to resign is a legit call, then begun the process. Otherwise, it will be laziness on the part of the government to begin to be concerned about individuals exercising right of expression.”
Asked whether Tinubu’s own call for former President Goodluck Jonathan’s resignation in 2014 could be considered legitimate, Bwala drew a distinction between both periods. He said, “In the days of Jonathan, they didn’t have an idea of the solution. They were in denial about the fact that there were Chibok girls k+dnap.”
When reminded that Tinubu made the call months after the abd¥ction, he maintained, “Yes it was a legit call. Then it was a legit call, now it is not legit.”
