Afrobeats singer Seun Kuti has addressed Wizkid fans over the “Big Bird” nickname controversy, insisting the nickname belongs to him and urging Wizkid to come up with his own original name.
“If I see DJ Tunez again, I’ll confront him because he and his team are enjoying the Wizkid and Fela comparison instead of debunking it. I won’t even hug him,” he said.
In the same video, Seun revealed that he recently received $120,000 solely because he is Fela’s son, emphasizing that his father’s legacy continues to provide for him.
The dispute began when a Wizkid fan asked Seun during an Instagram live session to change his long-standing nickname, arguing that Wizkid is the “Biggest Bird”. Seun refused, asserting that he had been using the name first.
“Wizkid ‘stole’ my name. Tell your fave to be original. Why are you telling me to change my name? Sorry, I can’t change it. This name has been here since. I am the first to come up with it,” he said.
Seun also criticised Wizkid’s team, including DJ Tunez, for failing to address comparisons between Wizkid and Seun’s late father, Fela Kuti, arguing that their silence allows fans to drag Fela’s name into music disputes.
