Veteran Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade has criticised the growing trend of actors being expected to dance on social media as part of movie promotion, describing it as unprofessional.
Speaking during a recent interview with TVC, Omotola said while she enjoys dancing, it should be a personal choice and not a compulsory requirement to market a film.
She explained that the backlash against such promotional trends comes from the pressure placed on actors to perform viral stunts in order to sell their work, noting that there is a clear difference between promoting a project willingly and being forced to do so.
According to the actress, her role is to act in the movie, speak about the project, and participate in standard promotional activities, while marketing and advertising should be handled by professionals responsible for distribution.
Omotola added that turning movie promotion into a mandatory performance undermines professionalism in the industry and distracts from the creative work itself.
