Yunusa Tanko has called on Nigerians to intensify their demand for accountability and responsible leadership, saying recent developments in the country’s political landscape should inspire renewed civic participation.
Tanko made the remarks while reacting to growing national conversations about insecurity and governance, which he said have also gained international attention following discussions on Al Jazeera. According to him, the international spotlight has helped amplify the challenges facing Nigeria and underscored the urgency for reform.
He noted that many of the country’s issues—particularly insecurity and criminality—are widely known and documented through videos, reports, and testimonies. Tanko stressed that Nigerians must decide whether to remain silent or take collective action to reclaim the country through democratic means.
In what he described as a sign of renewed political momentum, Tanko pointed to the recent development involving Peter Obi, who has officially obtained his membership card of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Tanko said the move could energize supporters who are advocating for political change and good governance in the country.
He also urged citizens to actively participate in the electoral process, particularly by ensuring adequate representation across Nigeria’s polling units during elections. According to him, widespread grassroots engagement is key to strengthening democracy and achieving political reforms.
Reaffirming support for Obi’s political vision, Tanko encouraged Nigerians to remain hopeful and united in their pursuit of a better future.
“Arise and shine, Nigeria,” he said, adding that a “new Nigeria is possible” if citizens remain committed to the struggle for transparent leadership and national progress.
