The Nigeria Police Force in Anambra State has launched an investigation into allegations of unprofessional conduct by some officers following a viral complaint video linked to an incident in Onitsha.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, the command confirmed that the Divisional Police Officer of Okpoko Division had already intercepted the complaint and began efforts to identify the officers involved.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ikioye Orutugu, has directed the DPO to present the officers concerned for investigation and possible disciplinary action in line with the regulations of the police force.
Preliminary findings from the ongoing probe revealed that officers had earlier been tasked with identifying the personnel allegedly involved in the incident. The command also confirmed that the money reportedly collected from the victim has been returned, an action the police described as a serious indictment and evidence of unprofessional conduct.
Investigators also noted that the involvement of a Point-of-Sale (POS) operator in the transaction suggests a possible conspiracy in the alleged incident.
The command stressed that it would not shield any officer found culpable, assuring the public that appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken in accordance with established procedures.
Police authorities reiterated their commitment to professionalism, accountability, and the protection of citizens’ rights, adding that further updates will be communicated as the investigation progresses.
