A recent fiscal report has identified the 10 states with the lowest revenue generation in Nigeria for the 2025 financial year, highlighting ongoing challenges in internally generated revenue and economic capacity across some parts of the country.
According to the data, Nasarawa State recorded the lowest revenue among the states listed, generating about N188.6 billion within the year.
Kebbi State followed with N191.2 billion, while Zamfara State recorded N204.9 billion.
Other states on the list include Ebonyi State with N234.9 billion and Adamawa State which generated N235.5 billion during the same period.
The report also placed Taraba State at N249.3 billion, while Yobe State recorded N262.2 billion.
Similarly, Gombe State generated N264.9 billion, followed by Ekiti State with N275.6 billion.
Completing the list is Plateau State, which recorded N289 billion in total revenue for the year.
Analysts say the figures highlight the continued need for states to strengthen economic activities, expand their tax bases, and improve internally generated revenue to reduce dependence on federal allocations.
