Ogun NYSC Official Detained Following Corps Member’s Death

Corps Member’s Death

An official of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Ogun State, Abass Olalekan, has been detained by police following the death of a female corps member, Victoria Ariyo, in Abeokuta.

Ariyo, who was serving in Abeokuta South Local Government Area, reportedly died on Tuesday due to complications linked to a terminated pregnancy. Her remains were subsequently laid to rest at Kobape Cemetery along the Kobape-Sagamu Road.

Her death comes less than a month after another corps member, Adeleye Mary, who served in the same local government area, also died under mysterious circumstances.

Reports have raised serious allegations against Olalekan, the Local Government Inspector (LGI) for Abeokuta South, accusing him of being romantically involved with Ariyo. It is claimed that the relationship led to the pregnancy and its eventual termination.

A police source confirmed Olalekan’s arrest, stating that he is currently in custody at the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters in Eleweran, and questioned the appropriateness of a relationship between an official and a corps member under his supervision.

Ogun State Police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed that Ariyo’s death is under investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department, but did not comment on Olalekan’s arrest or the allegations.
