Political commentator Reno Omokri has claimed that Nigeria witnessed one of its most peaceful festive periods in over a decade, citing the absence of major security incidents during Christmas, New Year, and Eid-el-Fitri celebrations.
In a lengthy statement, Omokri said the 2025 Christmas celebration marked a turning point, referencing remarks by Daniel Okoh, President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, who reportedly described it as one of the most peaceful in recent years.
According to him, the trend continued into the New Year and the recent Eid-el-Fitri celebrations, which he said were also observed nationwide without reports of attacks, killings, or major disruptions.
Omokri argued that the relative calm was not accidental but the result of coordinated efforts by Nigeria’s security agencies, including the military and intelligence services. He commended the sacrifices of security personnel, noting that their operations had led to the arrest or neutralization of several notorious bandits and террорист suspects across the country.
He also highlighted recent arrests, including that of a suspected high-profile attacker linked to the Owo church incident, and a TikTok-famous bandit apprehended by troops, as evidence of improved intelligence gathering and operational efficiency.
The former presidential aide further praised the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, attributing the peaceful atmosphere during major religious celebrations to enhanced coordination between the Office of the National Security Adviser and security agencies such as the DSS.
However, Omokri criticized opposition voices, particularly Peter Obi, accusing them of failing to highlight positive developments because they do not align with their narrative about Nigeria’s security situation.
He concluded by urging Nigerians to recognize the efforts of the armed forces and security institutions, emphasizing that sustained peace during major holidays reflects ongoing progress in the country’s fight against insecurity.
