Business man and socialite Obi Cubana has issued a public apology to the Igbo people following widespread backlash over a statement he made at a Cityboy movement event alongside the Enugu State Governor, where he was heard saying that “Igbo people lack knowledge.”
He made such statement because Igbos were against his allegiance to the Tinubu movement knowing the kind of influence he had in the Igbo community and the hardships Nigerians are facing.
Speaking in an interview with the BBC, Cubana expressed regret over the reaction his words generated, clarifying that his comments were taken out of context and did not reflect his true feelings toward his own people.
The apology comes after the remark sparked significant outrage across social media and among Igbo communities, with many calling out the entrepreneur for what they perceived as a demeaning generalisation about the group he belongs to.
