Former Bayelsa State Governor and Senator representing Bayelsa West, Seriake Dickson, has opened up on the lingering crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stating that he and others made efforts to salvage the situation before it deteriorated.
Speaking on the internal wrangling that has plagued the party, Dickson revealed that he was part of reconciliation efforts aimed at resolving the disputes that rocked the PDP from the onset.
According to him, despite the presence of workable solutions, some governors within the party consistently opposed moves toward peace, rejecting proposals that could have restored unity.
He noted that many of those who resisted reconciliation have now defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), raising questions about their earlier stance during the crisis.
“It is not fair to say I and others left the PDP,” Dickson said. “It would be more contextually appropriate to say the PDP left me.”
The lawmaker’s remarks come amid ongoing realignments within Nigeria’s political landscape, as defections and internal disputes continue to reshape party structures ahead of future elections.
