SUG President Allegedly Assaulted by Udogachi Vigilante

Tension gripped Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) on Wednesday afternoon following the alleged brutal assault of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) President by operatives of the Udogachi Vigilante Group.

A video shared online shows the student leader lying on the ground while several men, reportedly members of the vigilante group, physically attacked him.

The incident reportedly occurred around 2:00 p.m. on March 25, sparking outrage across the university community.

According to an SOS message circulated among students, the SUG President was targeted for actively advocating for students’ rights. The message described the incident as a “brutal beating,” further alleging that the attackers attempted to shoot him during the confrontation.

“This is no longer something we can keep quiet about. This is an attack on every single student of this institution. Enough is enough,” part of the message read.

In response, students mobilized for a protest, calling for immediate action and justice. The demonstration quickly escalated, with large numbers of students converging at Aroma Junction, a major junction in Awka, where they blocked the road, causing significant disruption to traffic.

As of the time of filing this report, tensions remain high, with students demanding accountability and improved safety within the campus environment.
