The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man, Chukwudalu Ezeani, for allegedly murdering his cousin and secretly burying him in his compound in Amichi, Nnewi South Local Government Area.
The suspect was apprehended by operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka following renewed investigations into a missing person case reported in August 2025.
According to police authorities, the victim, 52-year-old Chinedu Ezeani, was declared missing after he reportedly disappeared on August 1, 2025. However, fresh intelligence prompted detectives to revisit the case, leading to a breakthrough.
Preliminary findings revealed that the suspect allegedly killed the victim at his residence in Afube Village, Amichi, at about 8:00 p.m. on the day he was reported missing. He then buried the body in a shallow grave within his compound, concealing the crime for approximately eight months.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to the crime and guided police operatives to the burial site. The decomposed remains were subsequently exhumed and deposited for forensic examination.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the development, stating that the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The command reiterated its commitment to ensuring justice and urged residents to promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
