Nigerian street-hop singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has sparked reactions online after criticizing Christian leaders over what he described as their silence on the alleged killing of Christians in parts of the country.
The “Zazu” crooner’s remarks come in the wake of reports of a fresh attack on worshippers during Palm Sunday in Jos, Plateau State, by suspected militants—an incident that has reignited public debate around claims of targeted violence against Christians.
In a video shared on social media, Portable accused some pastors of hypocrisy, alleging that they focus more on personal protection—such as the use of bulletproof vehicles—while failing to speak out when their congregants are under attack.
He questioned why religious leaders have not organized protests or taken stronger collective action in response to the killings, describing their silence as troubling amid repeated incidents of violence.
The singer further argued that leaders of other religious groups might respond more forcefully if their followers were being targeted in similar circumstances.
Speaking in a mix of Yoruba and Pidgin, Portable expressed frustration over what he perceives as a lack of leadership and advocacy from Christian clerics, calling for greater accountability and public engagement in addressing the ongoing security concerns.
